Regular readers will know that I’m a fan of the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet at York. They have some amazing sales from some of my favourite brands like The Kooples and LK Bennett. I loved doing the white shirt challenge with them and Millie Mackintosh this year.
The Designer Outlet recently hosted Billie Bhatia, Fashion Writer at ELLE, as she chose her must-have fashion items from retailers within the centre. Billie is an authoritative voice on trends and fashion at one of the world’s leading fashion titles and advised shoppers on the Autumn/Winter must-haves for 2017/18.
Billie gets to interview all the best designers and fashion celebs, so I thought I’d ask a few questions back at her…here’s what she had to say:
What does ‘fashion’ mean to you Billie?
To me, fashion is fun it should bring you joy – you want to feel excited and proud when you wear your clothes, they are an extension of you.
What are your favourite trends at the moment?
I love this return to glamour we are seeing and will continue to see for spring summer, it’s a real change for the simplistic designs that we have been seeing over the years. It’s also great for an excuse to dress up!
You recently chatted to Olivier Rousteing for Elle. I’m a big fan of Balmain and loved your questions. Who has been your favourite to interview so far in your career?
I interviewed Beth Ditto at our ELLE Style Awards and we ended up chatting over a few glasses of champagne and I was crying with laughter. I then interviewed her a couple of months later for a bigger feature and it was like sitting down with an old friend. So much fun and so much laughter.
Will the camel coat EVER not be in style for Autumn/Winter?
Never. Buy one immediately.
What is your favourite piece of clothing or accessory?
My mum gave me her old Max Mara camel coat which I totally treasure and feel like a real grown-up when I wear it. When it comes to accessories I have a pair of gold Anissa Kermiche earrings that look a little bit like fortune cookies – they dress up any outfit even jeans and a t-shirt – a perfect touch of glamour.
To use one of your own questions (it’s a good one!)…what never goes out of fashion?
As chlichéd as it sounds, confidence is the answer to this one. You don’t have to follow a trend to be stylish, so long as you wear your clothes with confidence you’re all set. Failing that buy the following: a navy blue cashmere jumper, straight leg jeans and a camel coat.
Get yourself down to one of the McArthur Glen Designer Outlets to get those last minute Christmas pressies! ….or maybe just grab a bargain for yourself. Ha!
Thanks to Billie and to McArthur Glen for arranging the interview.
