Athens Gate Hotel

We stayed at the Athens Gate Hotel during our recent trip to the lovely sprawling city of Athens. This is the first in a series of posts about the city…there’s a vlog to come and details of everything we got up to.

I thought I’d start with a quick look at the hotel we stayed at, it’s not my usual longer review because we were pretty focussed on the city this time…but I did want to mention the hotel as I would really recommend it.

It can be so hard to know which is going to be a good hotel before you get somewhere. Trip Advisor kinda helps…but sometimes it doesn’t! The hard work was actually taken out of our hands this time as the people we were seeing in Athens had booked it for us. This was great as they knew the area and which hotels were good for a mid-range stay.

The hotel is in a great location, right next to the Temple of Zeus…Athens Gate Hotel

…which gives the rooftop bar/restaurant some amazing views:Athens-3551

I don’t think you can get much better than that, can you?!

The bar actually has pretty much 360 degree views out over Athens, you can watch the sunset whilst sipping a glass of wine and eating as much feta as your heart desires. Athens Gate HotelAthens-161540 Breakfast (which was good…nice selection of food) was served at the rooftop bar, which means you really get your fill of those fabulous views. We sat at different places each morning for breakfast then in the evenings for drinks so we felt like we’d really seen all of the city from above.

This was my perfect spot….Upstairs Bar at Athens Gate

Just lovely.

But enough of me telling you how good the rooftop bar was! How about the rest of the hotel?

The rooms are good – fairly standard I’d say, but with nice finishes…

The bed was perfect for both sleeping in (very comfy) and piling shopping bags on from our mammoth haul of Pull & Bear and Zara! Athens-3719

The art was a bit naughty too!Athens Gate Hotel RoomMy only criticism would be that the air con wasn’t great. It’s Winter, so Athens wasn’t at full heat obviously, but it was still a bit too hot at night when we were sleeping. If I was to stay again, I’d ask for a room with good air con.

The hotel staff were very helpful, lots of languages spoken and they were lovely and friendly.

I hope that gives you a little look at this hotel, like I said…it wasn’t my usual more in-depth reviews, but I do thin it actually covers everything! The rooms were good, the views were fantastic and the location was perfect. Great for the sights and for shopping.  I really liked Athens a lot as a city, it’s got a great vibe and I’m looking forward to showing you more of it over the coming weeks.

This looks great! I’m planning a trip to Greece and Macedonia in the summer and might just have to check this place out. In terms of location, how close is it to the metro and how easy would it be to get to the main sites (Parthenon, Museums, Stadium etc)?

WOW. The views there look amazing and hotel looks gorgeous. I need to explore more of Greece, this has definitely tempted me to look in to.

It’s around 5 mins walk from the Metro and around 15 mins walk from the main sites like the Parthenon (minus the walk up to the top!)
