My Birthday Weekend

If some of you were wondering where I’ve been and why I haven’t blogged for a few weeks, it’s because I’ve been mentally busy. Work has been fairly demanding and my MSc dissertation has been too.

I did get chance though to get away for four days to Staffordshire to a log cabin which was lovely and quiet and had a fab hot tub. The special occasion was my 34th birthday. It was great to spend some quality time with my husband, even if he did find it very hard to be away from WiFi and a mobile signal!

The first half of last week was a bit punishing work-wise, finishing with a train back from London that the brakes failed on and then the rescue train couldn’t stop at Leeds….so I then had to get from York to Leeds in tornado weather (ok, maybe not tornado….but it felt like it!). I did have lots of work to do on the train back and couldn’t get any done, so arrived home a little bit narked. Thankfully, a lovely surprise bunch of flowers was waiting for me from one of my best friends, Cat. I also got to open one of my birthday presents from my husband early….it was an iPad Air, which I hadn’t expected and was very happy about! (I opened it early as we put some movies on it to take away with us)

The rest of the week and weekend was a lot more relaxing, thankfully! We started off with a spa morning at Oulton Hall – just what I needed to soften my aching muscles. They use Espa products there, which I love the smell of. I did buy some of the soothing bath oil, which I’d been meaning to do for ages. Can’t wait to use it.

The drive down to Staffordshire was accompanied by this album:

“Why???” I hear you ask? Well, I lent this CD to one of my oldest and best friends Sam when I was eleven years old. That’s twenty three years ago (for those of you who have already forgotten how old I am)!! Sam never gave it back and we’d occasionally remember….laugh a lot and she’d say she’d eventually give me it back…..and she did! A new copy arrived from Amazon the other day. What a star.

We stocked up on lots of lovely food and had a lovely birthday / Valentine’s Day. Here is some paté shaped in a heart. LOL.

We drank lots of prosecco and I opened more pressies from family and friends (incl. Sally’s fab-as-usual choices and a really touching photo of us all from my husband’s family.

The weekend continued on it’s relaxation theme with my favourite wine and Breaking Bad… we finally got around to watching it! We’re now four episodes in and really enjoying it! I must admit that the first episode felt really fast paced and the others have felt slow compared, but it’s still entertaining me.

On our last day, we had lunch with some lovely friends from the area…Ross, Laura and their son William. It was great to catch up with them and we don’t get to see each other a lot these days. William is a great kid and I love what such calm parents Ross and Laura are.

Back at home, I’m greeted with more pressies from family and friends. Apparently my brother even went out into London to buy me them himself….with a hangover! (knowing my brother, this seriously impressed me). Birthdays rock. I’m a lucky girl.

Now I just need to figure out how to stop eating chocolate with every meal!

Super Happy Birthday! 🙂 Sounds like you had an ace time!

Also, stick with Breaking Bad. I was unsure about the first series but by the end of the second you’ll be totally hooked! xxx
