Body Shop Oils of Life

I’ve been trialling the new Body Shop Oils of Life after I was kindly sent them to review. They had been on my skincare ‘lust list’ for a while if I’m honest after Caroline Hirons mentioned them.

My skin is combination. Plenty of dehydrated patches, but I also suffer from hormonal acne around my jaw. Discovering oils has been a relatively recent thing for me. I’d always shyed away from them, thinking “why would I put more oil onto skin that is producing too much oil already?!” …..ahhh….it’s actually dehydrated, hence it creates too much oil (thanks Mrs Hirons for the education!)

Here’s a quick two minute video that Caroline did for The Body Shop, it’s well worth watching as it tells you all you need to know about facial oils, how to use them and she demonstrates some facial massage you can do on an evening (I need to practise that!)

I think we as consumers in general are actually now realising that oils are a good thing and that they are absolutely great for all skin types, including oily skin! There’s certainly more to choose from these days on the skincare shelves.

“There’s a reason why oils have become skincare’s new obsession: not only are they incredibly nourishing, ultra-lightweight and quick to absorb – but they also have the perfect texture to penetrate skin easily and deeply. Seed oils are particularly exciting because their potency helps provide nutrition and radiance”
Dr. Terry (Global Skincare Expert for The Body Shop)

OK, without further ado, here are the Body Shop’s Oils of Life. They contain:

  • Black Cumin Seed Oil from the Egyptian Nile Valley – known for its concentration in antioxidants
  • Rosehip Seed Oil from the Andes foothills of Chile – rich in omega 3 and 6
  • Camellia Seed Oil from the evergreen trees of China – naturally rich in nutritive oleic acids

Oils Of Life Intensely Revitalising Essence Lotion

The Oils of Life Essence Lotion is to be used like a pre-oil (I’m not sure that’s a ‘thing’…I’m just calling it that!). You use a few drops before a facial oil or serum. It locks in an extra layer of moisture and prevents trans-epidermal water loss.

Those couple of drops sink into your face very quickly.

Like I said, I’m a big fan of facial oils, my past faves being from Ole Henriksen, Zelens etc. so I was eager to try the Oils of Life facial oil. It compared very well to those ‘oil heavyweights’. It sank into my skin well.

This moisturiser goes on soooo well. I would actually say that it glides. It doesn’t feel too heavy or tacky, the consistency is just lovely. I chose the cream, rather than the gel, as my skin gets really dehydrated.

Some of the reviews on the Body Shop website talk negatively about the smell, but I honestly didn’t find them to be bad smelling at all…I really liked the fragrance. Perhaps the reviewers on there are trying oils for the first time and aren’t used to some of the smells….maybe. It could just be a preference thing.

I’ve been using the whole range at night time (after cleansing and acid toning) and I’d say that my lesson is that I mostly need to follow Caroline Hiron’s method of putting the oil on. I often put too much on my face! I’m really loving all of the products and they will continue to be a big part of my evening skincare routine.

You can buy the range here:

  • Intensely Revitalising Bi-Phase Essence Lotion – £15
  • Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil – £28
  • Intensely Revitalising Cream – £25
  • Intensely Revitalising Gel Cream – £25

There are some good posts on The Body Shop website, including:

Why is handpicking ingredients and cold pressing them important?

If you’re interested in doing a bit of facial massage on an evening with Oils Of Life, I did spot this 2 minute video on The Body Shop website which both shows how to use the Oils Of Life products and facial massage at the same time in a fun way. I think I’m going to buy one of those facial massage roller thingies!

What do you think of facial oils? Do you use them?

* Please note I was sent these products for review purposes. As always, my views are my own.

Thanks for the review, really informative and great photos. I’ve been lusting after these for a while. They are now on my Christmas list.
