How have I lived in Leeds for so long without visiting Neon Cactus? I don’t think I’d even ever really noticed the place before Kellie kindly invited me as her +1 to their new drinks preview evening. Not sure why, I guess I don’t go down Call Lane as much these days… I should do though as Call Lane does still have some great places (Arts Café, Black Swan, Neon Cactus…)
I’m assuming it’s just me that was in the dark about Neon Cactus? I must be, because they are celebrating their seventh birthday this month and they are updating their food and drinks. Seven years shows people do like ’em. I hadn’t realised either that they are in the same group at Cielo Blanco in the Trinity. I have to say, I prefer Neon Cactus, I like their vibe.
I’ve been out of action for a few months from Leeds blogging events, so it was great to be back out with the gals. We really enjoyed ourselves…maybe a little too much at the end of the evening? We did turn into *that* group of loud cackling girls… It can’t be helped after tequila shots and cocktails though, can it?
Cocktails at Neon Cactus
The cocktails were delicious, I think my favourite was the strawberry slushi at the start…yum. I have no idea what was in it, but it was very sweet and totally hit the spot.
I must confess, I’m not a massive tequila fan, so I was a little worried I wasn’t going to like many of the cocktails….but I needn’t have been worried, the tequila shots we had at the start were swiftly followed by a lovely passion fruit tasting shot which took away the tequila taste. Perfect for me!
The margaritas we had were also really good…as were the ‘Vimto’ cocktails!
Food at Neon Cactus
So, what about the food? I’m a big Mexican food fan (Pinché Pinché in Chapel Allerton is my absolute fave), so I was looking forward to trying the food from Neon Cactus.
The tacos were really juicy and tasty…
The wings and ribs were fine, nothing to write home about…just fine.
What I really loved were the quesadillas…
I ADORE a good quesadilla and all the varieties I tried from Neon Cactus were really delicious. I’ve taken a look at the rest of their menu and there are some great sounding dishes on there.
Such a fun evening, I’d definitely come back to order some quesadillas and small plates with friends along with some of their cocktails. It’s a great way to have a good natter in a fun relaxed place. Like I said, it was soooo good to be out again with the Leeds Bloggers gang… big thanks to Kellie for inviting me!
Laura and Emma (The Life Edit) looking hot!
