Am I a “Luxury” Lifestyle Blogger?

Here’s a question for this post – am I a luxury lifestyle blogger?

One thing I always struggle with is how to define this blog. I don’t stick to a niche, because I have many different things in life that I like to blog about – interiors are taking a front seat at the moment due to the new house, I always love fashion (check out my new ‘What I Wore in a week’ vlog‘), I’m into beauty and skincare, I’m a bit of a geek and love tech….and I adore good food.

So, I’m a lifestyle blogger.

I’ve always disliked the term ‘lifestyle blogger’ – it sounds weird, a bit too Kardashian maybe?…but I guess it’s probably accurate. It’s what I’m into, I guess it’s…well, my lifestyle.

It’s a big category though for bloggers. There’s a lot of us about and so “brands” (our own brands) are becoming more important (helping readers to remember us)…I’ve had the name Digital Diva since the start, maybe four or so year ago. I’ve always blogged on and off, but the name has stuck and it still feels right. I can be a bit of a diva (the clothes/bag/shoe obsessed part of me) and I’m most definitely digital through and through (I’ve worked in digital marketing for nearly twenty years).

So, do I need to pick myself apart further from all the other lifestyle bloggers in the UK? Maybe, maybe not.

I guess maybe I fit, these days into being called a ‘luxury lifestyle blogger’. I usually blog about eating out at decent places (like Man Behind The Curtain), my taste in skincare and makeup is high end, my fashion is a mixture of high street and designer and my interiors tastes aren’t cheap. Other ‘luxury’ lifestyle bloggers include Remie’s Luxury Blog (love that gal) and Angie from Silver Spoon (fab lady, goes on fab holidays!).

However, the word ‘luxury’ feels weird too! I’m not taking baths in fifty pound notes, my travels are to lovely places…but I’m not spending tens of thousands.

I’m also no longer a twenty-something blogger in her first job with little money. I’ve got two great, well paid, jobs (which I’ve worked hard for!) which means I can afford some of the nicer things in life. I like to blog about those things.

Luxury means different things to different people. Some of the things I blog about are luxe to a lot of people…but for some, they wouldn’t agree. I’d be Poundland to them!

I think what I really am is a middle class lifestyle blogger.

Yep. I’m a Waitrose-shopping-designer-clothes-buying-still-wants-to-save-a-bit-of-money-on-her-gas-bill-middle-class-lifestyle-blogger.

Hmmmmmm. Well, that sounds dull!

Maybe it doesn’t matter for now. It’s clear from what I blog about the kind of things I’m into these days…maybe I should resist putting myself into yet another box. I do like boxes, they appeal to the control freak in me. I just need to find a better name than luxury lifestyle blogger.

Thanks for letting me ramble at you! What do you think?

Do you blog? What do you class yourself as? Do you have a niche? x

I definitely agree, luxury has a different definition for everyone! Thanks for the shout out, lady!

It does. I look at your blog and definitely feel it’s luxury. I guess maybe I don’t view my own stuff as luxury because it’s me? Not sure….hehe. Big love to you x

I always think aswell theres a difference between luxury and how people show it, for example, I am a budget blogger. Both of my blogs focus on budget, however there are certain blogs and youtubers (eg yours and Lizzie shot from the street) that I love reading whereas some blogs come across far too “look what I can afford” and I really dont enjoy them. I dont enjoy people wasting money either, if that makes sense?

Charlotte, you mentioning me in the same sentence as Lizzie from Shot From The Street has basically made my day! She’s my fave vlogger and I love her style.

I completely agree with you…the ones which focus on just “hey look…I’ve got a load of money and this is what I’ve spent it on” is the side of ‘luxury blogging’ that I want to stay away from. I don’t want to be pretentious, but I also want to be true to me, what I can afford to have and what I do actually buy.

I love reading budget blogs too, I love having a variety of different blogs to read. That’s what makes us all such a good bunch isn’t it? We’re all different 🙂 xx

Yes I agree! You and Lizzy both just wear the luxury items with style and class 🙂
