Rehydrating my winter dry skin

I don’t know about you, but my skin has taken a real battering this winter. It’s been really dry and dehydrated…meaning my foundation has looked patchy, my complexion has looked dull and generally haven’t really looked my best.

I think it’s the cold temperatures as well as heated rooms that have been sending my face into dehydration. Oh…and I rarely drink enough water. That definitely doesn’t help.

I can’t do much about the cold weather…so I’ve been trying to tackle my dehydration with skincare and drinking more water (read to the end to check out my amazing little gadget!)

Skincare for dehydration

My skincare routine is usually pretty decent, regular readers will know I follow Caroline Hirons’ advice, generally cleansing, acid toning, serums, oils etc. etc. I must admit thought that I’ve not been great lately. I always always take my makeup off, but sometimes I’ve been pretty tired at night so I’ll just quickly put a bit of facial oil on before going to bed. I definitely haven’t been exfoliating or acid toning as much as I should have been.

The lovely people at Caudalie sent me some of their products specifically for dehydrated skin just before Christmas. I’ve been using the products since then to see if I could improve my patchy dry areas and get my skin looking nice again. Here’s what I’ve been using:

Caudalie Oil Makeup Remover

This was already firmly in my skincare routine. I’ve used the Caudalie oil makeup remover for about a year or so and I love it. I think it was London Beauty Queen’s post that first got me to try it. The great thing about using an oil to take your makeup off is that it’s great at removing waterproof makeup quickly. I tend to wear waterproof mascara and lots of liquid lipsticks. They need a good oil to get them off my poor face!

Caudalie Oil

If I don’t think my face is completely clean, I do a second cleanse with Emma Hardie’s Morgina Balm.

Caudalie Gentle Buffing Cream

I’ve been using this to exfoliate my skin twice a week. It’s got a lovely consistency, I don’t often use exfoliators other than the Oskia one, as most as too harsh on my skin…but this gentle buffing creme is lovely and gentle…whilst still getting the job done.

Caudalie Hydrating Mask

I follow the exfoliation up with a hydrating face mask that is left on for around 10-15 mins.

Once that’s off, I use…

Caudalie Divine Oil

Absolutely gorgeous stuff. Nice subtle smell and beautiful on the skin. The only thing is that it’s pretty damn hard to photograph!!

Caudalie Facial Oil

On days when I’m not using the exfoliator / hydrating mask. I’m using Nip & Fab’s Gylcolic Fix pads or Pixi Glow Tonic to acid tone…followed by Caudalie’s Divine Oil.

On mornings, I’m less great at making time for skincare, but when I do manage, I cleanse then pop on Caudalie’s Moisturizing Sorbet followed by a light moisturiser.

Caudalie Dehydration

…and I also make sure I keep this lip conditioner in my bag to keep my lips soft too. Liquid lipstick on dry lips isn’t the best look.

I’ve been loving using the products. I can tell the difference in my skin. It feels soft and my foundation is going on SO much easier.

Smart Hydration Reminder

I bought this little gadget just before Christmas too. The Ulla Smart Hydration Reminder. It was £20 and it basically knows when you’ve tipped your water bottle up to take a drink. If you havent done it for 30-40 mins, it’s little LED flashes to remind you to drink more water. It works because it catches your eye.

My brother did scare me into thinking I’d become like Pavlov’s Dogs…but I’m willing to risk it to remember to drink more water!

How do you guys get on with keeping your skin hydrated and remembering to drink water? It can’t be just me that is hopeless at remembering……surely?  😀

If you’d like to read some more review of Caudalie’s products, I’d recommend Laura’s look at some of their anti-aging products or Ellenor’s look at the Vine Body Gift Set (perfect for Valentine’s?)

* Please note the Caudalie products (apart from the oil makeup remover) were sent to me for free. My opinions, as always, as all my own.

I’m loving Caudalie too, I’ve got a post coming up featuring their body products. Water is definitely key to me, as well as layering products xx
