I was lucky enough to get to go to the Stanton Social Restaurant in Lower East Side when I was in New York (see www.digital-diva.co.uk/new-york-new-york).
The restaurant specialises in delicious small plates and expertly-made cocktails. I had ‘Strawberry Fields’, made with Grey Goose Citron, muddled fresh strawberries, lemon syrup, fresh lemon and a Riesling floater….it was really good – just the right strength and the strawberries were very tasty.
What we ate – Stanton Social Restaurant
We started with the Red Snapper Tacos (really yummy with creamy avocado and spicy mango) and a smoked duck salad with goat’s cheese croutons.
I’m not big fan of goat’s cheese, so wasn’t expecting anything great from the duck salad….but it was absolutely lovely. The duck was delicious and not overly smoked. The salad dressing, combined with the mild goat’s cheese complimented the duck beautifully.
Mini spaghetti carbonaras topped with belly pork and a quails egg came next, which were simply gorgeous. The carbonara was creamy, the belly pork was tender….the whole taste combination just worked so well.
Next up was the Social Mac & Cheese (with chorizo and oven dried tomato) and ‘Chicken n’ Waffles’ (brick pressed chicken, aged cheddar waffle, corn pudding, balsamic spiked maple syrup). Both dishes were really great, very well cooked and the flavours were just lovely.
After all this, I was very full…..but I’m not known to turn pudding down and the dessert menu at the Stanton Social Restaurant (see photo below) was amazing! We shared the Red Velvet Twinkie and the doughnuts….warm, doughy, amazing. The toffee dip was my favourite.
All in all, it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had – lots of variation and amazing flavours. I just hope I get to come back to New York and the Stanton Social Restaurant soon where I’m going to starve myself for 24hrs in preparation to eat even more next time.
